COVID19’s toll on Colorado theatre

IMPACTED COLORADO PRODUCTIONS TO DATE: 230 AND COUNTING

Small Mouth Sounds

Toll spans 95 companies across Colorado

By John Moore, Senior Arts Journalist

There are many ways to measure the devastation being wreaked upon Colorado’s theatre economy by the ongoing COVID19 shutdown, but they don't get much more stark than this: As of today, 230 Colorado theatre offerings by 95 companies have been shuttered early, postponed or canceled. Imagine all that drama, comedy, music, intrigue … just not happening. No hearts moved, moods lifted, tears shed or epiphanies achieved.

All around Colorado this summer, the hills will not be alive with the sound of music. Most every mountain theatre company that comes out to play from Boulder to Greeley to Grand Lake to Creede to Trinidad either has canceled or significantly truncated its summer plans.

This week, check back here for updates from individual companies as our “Straight Talk” series gives leaders from the Colorado theatre community the opportunity to individually state their immediate plans.

The following is a list of all announced impacted Colorado theatre productions scheduled between March through August (and beyond if applicable). These productions represent thousands of Colorado theatre artists on stage and off who have been (or will be) denied the opportunity to earn income on these shows. Impacted artists are encouraged to apply for a Denver Actors Fund DEAR Fund stipend here.

Disclaimer: Many companies are considering rescheduling these productions at later dates. This list will be regularly updated. Updates should be sent to culturewestjohn@gmail.com.
